"I got a letter from them a while ago and I decided to call Coach Johnson, the recruiting coordinator and the guy that recruits my area," said Scherer. "I wasn't going to go their camp, because I had just gotten back from Stanford and strained my groin. But, I decided late that night that I would go the next day. So I went down there for the camp and it actually flooded with about four feet of water (laughter).
"It was really great. I sat down and talked with their coaches for about an hour, including Coach Ferentz. We talked about how he used to be good friends with the old coach of where I play. He was just really nice. All their facilities just seemed really top of the line. I liked it a lot. I loved their stadium. Iowa was just a really nice school overall."
At 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, Scherer also has offers from Missouri and Illinois. Besides for his offers, the Mary Inst. Country Day product has received intrest from Colorado, Standford, Texas A&M, and Penn State.
"I really like Missouri and Iowa as of right now, but I don't have any favorites. I'm pretty wide open," said Scherer. "Missouri coaches have always been really nice to me. Their facilities are up there with some of the best. They have been the nicest people in the world to me. Both their players and their coaches. It seems like their lives there are nice."
A projected linebacker at the next level, Scherer played defensive end out of necessity for his school last season.
"I played on the outside my freshman year of high school, but otherwise I have played about every linebacker spot. Schools want me to stand up," said Scherer."
Later this week, he will be attending one of Missouri's first practices and plans to take an Iowa game in the middle of fall.
"I actually was just looking at Iowa's schedule. I'm either going to go to the Penn State game or the Ohio State game. We have a Thursday game this year, but that weekend they are in Arizona. So later in November I will head up there."
The 2012 prospect is looking for a place where he feels at home and the people are quote "nice." HawkeyeInsider.com will have more on Scherer later in the season.
