Cartwright was required to pass two summer courses in order to be eligible at Iowa for the fall semester. He reported that he passed his state and local government course. He expected to finish a computer class this week. He said he has "at least a B" in the class the last time he checked his grade last week.
"I plan in being in Iowa City on the 19th (August)," the point guard said.
Cartwright said it was a long summer taking classes and trying to stay in shape waiting for the time when he could join the Hawkeyes.
"I was taking care of my school work and working out," Cartwright said. "As it's gotten closer (to starting school at Iowa on August 23), I'm getting more excited and anxious."
After leading Los Angeles Dominguez High to a California title, Cartwright took his game to Fresno State. He started at point guard as a freshman, leading the team in assists, including dishing out 20 in one game.
Cartwright left Fresno following that first season. He played last winter at Paris junior college in the Dallas area.
"I was able to get a lot of shots up this summer and I know where some of the NBA guys work out so I got in some good pick-up games," Cartwright said. "I feel like I'm in pretty good shape and ready to go."
Cartwright said he'd have a better idea of his field of study at Iowa after the transcripts are sent from Paris to the school.
"I'm thinking about kinesiology, but I'm not sure," Cartwright said. "I probable should hurry up and figure that out."
