Living a half hour away has made it easy for Josh Oglesby to drop in on Iowa. The Cedar Rapids product took advantage of the location on Thursday to see more of campus and learn more about the Hawkeyes, a member of his Final Four of college considerations.
"Me and my high school coach (Brad Metzger, Washington) went down to check out the weights," the 6-foot-5, 180-pounder said. "My coach wanted to get me on a weight program to prepare for college."
Oglesby has unofficial visit to Minnesota on Aug. 23rd. He's considering another unofficial to Iowa for the Sept. 4 weekend when the football team opens up against Eastern Illinois at Kinnick Stadium.
He also reworked his four official visits, which means he won't make his decision on Sept. 21 as we reported in our previous article.
"I switched my Illinois visit to Oct. 2 and 3rd, so my decision won't be until after then," Oglesby said.
The Illini will face Ohio State in football that weekend. Oglesby plans on his official to Iowa on Sept. 11 for the Iowa State game. During the weekend of 18th, he'll be in Minneapolis for Minnesota's game against USC. He'll be at Arizona State on Sept. 25 when Oregon comes to town.
On Thursday, the Iowa coaches gave Oglesby a tour of the football facilities, Kinnick, Carver-Hawkeye Arena and its new practice facility being built. He met with an academic advisor and the strength and conditioning coach, Rusty Burney.
"I got to talk with Coach (Fran) McCaffery quite a bit," Oglesby said. "We talked about basketball and how I was doing. He had to go to a speaking engagement, so I spent the afternoon with the assistants and they showed me around."
Oglesby said that his four finalists - Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois and Arizona State - are even in his mind. He will use the official visits as his final guide.
