'Cats Seek Quarterback For The Future

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State continues to scout the country in an effort to find Quarterbacks who can continue to tradition and style of offense HC Bill Snyder liked to employ. Going to the state of Florida, K-State is looking to class of 2014 and at Coral Reef High School in the Miami area and it's star - Nicodem Pierre.

While colleges are busy extending scholarship offers to players in the 2013 class, there are a select few in the class of 2014 who have received early offers. Kansas State recently offered two current sophomores at Coral Reef High School in the Miami area.

One player who has been offered is quarterback Nicodem Pierre, who stepped in to lead the Barracudas to the second round of the Florida 8A playoffs.

"Two weeks ago Kansas State offered me over the phone," said Pierre. "I had been in contact with them for over a week. Coach Smith said they looked over my film and their minds were blown away and that they were ready to offer me."

Pierre, 6-foot-3, 210-pounds, and his go-to wide receiver, Jacob McCrary were both offered by Kansas State's Smith that day. He said the first play of his highlight reel features and 80-yard strike thrown to McCrary.

"I can make all of the difficult throws to any position on the field," Pierre said. "I'm good at getting rid of the ball quickly. This past season I threw for more than 1,200 yards. I was more of a drop back passer with some big time wide receivers to throw to. Some of those guys graduated along with our starting running back, so next year I'll have to do more scrambling out of the pocket."

Pierre has been looking at campuses in the Sunshine State, but with the new offer he's anxious to make a trip to the Little Apple.

"I've done a little research on the program and plan on visiting some time this summer for sure," Pierre said on Kansas State. "I've been hearing from Duke the most. I think they're close to offering.

"The only Junior Day visit I made was to [Miami]. I'm planning on going to a lot of the Florida colleges in the spring like UCF, Florida, USF, and FSU. One place I'd like to visit is Oregon. I love their high speed, no-huddle offense."

Pierre also plays basketball and baseball for Coral Reef. He reports a GPA of 3.2 and says his main goal as a junior is raise it even higher to ensure a successful college qualification.
