Green Commits To Purple

MANHATTAN, Kan. - JUCO Safety Travis Green did not need much time to decide to become a part of the Wildcat family after being offered a scholarship two days earlier and pulls the trigger.

It only took Travis Green two days after receiving a Kansas State offer to accept and become verbal commitment number eight in this year's recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 207-pound safety, who plays at top-ranked Iowa Western Community College, was recruited by the Wildcat staff out of Omaha (Neb.) North prior to going the JuCo route.

"Coach (Del) Miller's a real good guy," said Travis Green. "We developed a strong bond these last couple of years. When I went to [Iowa Western], he let me know they were still interested in recruiting me. He called me up and said they have an offer for me. It was that plain and simple. It only took me a couple of days to commit after I talked it over with my family.

"When I called to commit, Coach Miller told me it had his day, which I though was an honor because he made mine when he offered me. I wish I could be there now. I'm ready to be a Wildcat."

At Iowa Western, Green is the third leading tackler on the team with 62 in 11 games. He also has seven tackles for loss, five interceptions, and two pass breakups. Green believes the time spent at IWCC will serve him well as he transitions to NCAA Division 1 football in January.

"I'm going to be ready," Green said. "I cover well and I'm a sure tackler. The [Kansas State] coaches told me they think I can do anything on the field. I'll probably start at strong safety. They like my athleticism, speed, and how I play the game mentally. This is my first year at Iowa Western. I just got here last January, so I'm going to be three-for-three at Kansas State."

The Iowa Western Reivers will take on Butler (Kan.) Community College on Saturday, December 1st in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Green was named NJCAA player of the week following the North Dakota SCS game on November 3rd. He was also named First Team Midwest Football Conference at defensive back.
