Blinn TE Looking For K-State Offer

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State is back at Blinn College looking at tight end prospect, Chris Loving. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound sophomore is set for a January visit to Manhattan, Kan. which he hopes will lead the extension of an official offer. Loving spoke to KStateFans.com about his interest in the Wildcats.

"I began talking with Coach Dimel this spring," said Chris Loving. "We've been talking a lot more lately. He said I would most likely receive an offer on the visit which is scheduled for January 25th. I've always liked Kansas State. They've won a lot of games under Bill Snyder who I hear is a great coach. I just like the way they play football. They were a BCS team this year and that's huge."

Before Blinn College, Loving played at Klein High School, a 5A program in the Houston area. Although he only played one year, Loving knew football was what he want to continue to pursue.

"I'd always been a basketball player," he said. "I played one year of football as a senior and really liked it. I had a good year and a bunch of schools were interested in me, but they backed off offering me a scholarship after checking with the clearinghouse. Being a non-qualifier, I felt like going to Blinn would be my best option to get my grades up and keep playing football.

"The experience at Blinn has helped me tremendously. I'm stronger and more confident in my ability. In high school we didn't run at all. I played wide receiver. I've become a tight end here and turned into a good blocker as well. It's something I worked on throughout the spring. I'm a better route runner and hustle on every play. Most of all going to junior college has helped me mature as a person."

Although the Blinn Buccaneers used Loving primary for his blocking ability, he hauled in nine catches for 140 yards this past season and was named honorable mention All-Conference in his first year as a starter. Now he'll have to decide upon staying in Texas or possibly heading to play for the defending Big 12 champs.

"I have an offer from North Texas," Loving said. "I'm going there this weekend. The week after the Kansas State visit is when I'll probably make my decision. I want to take in the overall campus and see if it's a good living environment for me. I'd like to be a community that loves football and supports the team. I'm also going to look at the direction the program is heading. You want to go into a positive situation."

Kip Daily is a former Blinn player who will be on the roster next season for the Wildcats. Unfortunately, they lose linebacker Justin Tuggle to graduation. Loving, who would have a redshirt season available if needed, will finish his studies in Brenham, Texas this spring.
