Future Schedules Look The Same
The 2003 non-conference season has been put to bed - California, Troy State, McNeese State, Massachusetts and Marshall.
So what about the years to come?
It won't be much different, according to KSU associate athletics director Jim Epps, who does the leg-work for coach Bill Snyder on scheduling.
Epps does say that it is his hope to never have more than one Division I-AA team on future schedules.
The only non-conference game scheduled for 2004 is Louisiana-Lafayette, a Division I-A school, on Sept. 18.
In 2005, K-State will play home games with Miami of Ohio and North Texas, plus a trip to Marshall.
In 2006, Marshall will return to Manhattan. San Jose is on the 2007 slate, while Miami of Ohio and San Jose on the 2008 lineup.
"We'll be looking at more two-for ones, like the Marshall contract,<" Epps said. "There are getting to be fewer and fewer Division I teams willing t go on the road for just a guarantee, end everybody is after those schools."
The Marshall two-for-one contract calls for the schools to exchange $250,000 checks for the first two games, while Marshall will receive $400,000 for the third game at KSU Stadium.
This year's guarantees for Troy State was $280,000 and $300,000 for UMass.
There will not be another 12-game regular season in college football until 2008.
That is based on the number of Saturdays between Labor Day and Nov. 30 in a given year.
Next year's Big 12 schedule for K-State will include home games against Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas Tech and Iowa State, plus road dates at Texas A&M, Kansas, Missouri and Colorado.
