Marquis Johnson update
By Joshua Kinder
He hasn't been officially offered a scholarship by Kansas State, but Hutchinson Community College receiver Marquis Johnson still has the Wildcats high on his list. Johnson, who originally signed with Texas out of high school, is also strongly considering Texas Tech as well as Utah, Missouri, and Iowa. He hasn't scheduled any official visits yet, but plans to take a better look later this season.
The 6-2 220 pound freshman is most impressed with K-State's coaching staff. "It's a great program with great teachers as coaches," said Johnson, who used his redshirt last season to rehab a knee injury. "I know have things in my game to work on and I think the coaches there can really help me do that. They're a program on the rise and have actually been winning for quite a while now. I know they send a lot of players to the next level."
Johnson said he is a big receiver that can make a lot happen after the catch, much like Texas' Roy Williams."I have the ability to do the same things Roy can do," said Johnson, who has a 4.41 40-time. "I'm a big play guy and can make things happen after the catch. I'm most dangerous when I have the ball in my hands. I'm hard to take down and run solid routes."
Rumors lately have Johnson linked to TT and although still unconfirmed at this time, some consider Johnson a strong lean to TT for some time. The feeling is that Marquis or "Quis" as he likes to be called by friends- would like to stay and play his college ball in the Big 12. Much of recruiting boils down to getting recruits on campus. If Coach Snyder can get Marquis on campus before the former 5 star do everything receiver commits elsewhere, it would go a long way in putting Kansas State in the thick of this recruits recruitment.
