Marquis Makes a Decision
Marquis Johnson update
By Joshua Kinder
After nearly a week of speculation, the rumor of Marquis Johnson's commitment to Texas Tech has been confirmed. The freshman receiver from Hutchinson Community College committed to Tech Saturday night.
"Why not go somewhere where they throw the ball all the time," Johnson said Thursday. "They throw the ball on almost every play. It's the perfect fit for me and I want to be a part of what they're doing down there. It's the system I think I can do well in and really make some things happen."
The decision came as a surprise to many. Though Texas Tech had been recruiting the 6-2 220 pound Texas native for some time, Johnson told TheInsiders.com last week that he was planning on waiting till the end of the season to make any decisions and that he wanted to visit several schools. Kansas State, Utah, Missouri, and Iowa were also recruiting Johnson, who had originally committed to Texas out of high school.
