Vernon Smith update

By Joshua Kinder

Florida standout Vernon Smith has named his favorite. The linebacker prospect currently lists Oklahoma as his favorite. And contrary to some reports, Smith has not actually visited any schools yet, but plans to take several—his first to be Norman, Oklahoma.

"I just want to play for a winner," Smith said. "Oklahoma looks like the best team in the country right now and they want me there. It's something I really have to think about."

Smith, 6-1 230 pounds, said he also has a high interest in playing for Kansas State, but that wherever he goes, he wants to play early."They've been talking to me since my junior year," Smith said of K-State. "I like the way they play defense. They've built a name by what they do on defense. It's a school you have to look at."

The list of other schools recruiting Smith looks like a who's who among college football—Miami, Florida, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, and Nebraska. "Wherever I go, I want to feel comfortable," he said. "That's the main key for me right now. Once I start visiting, I'll have a better idea. I'm excited to get started."
