Quarterback Standout Narrows Down To Three

Iowa is no more for standout quarterback Nick Patton. The Kansas product has narrowed his schools to three, Kansas State, Kansas, and Missouri. After expressing a high interest in the Hawkeyes following his visit in September, Patton has decided that he wants to stay close to home after all.

The 6-3 185 pound signal caller will announce his decision at halftime of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl Jan. 3 on NBC. Patton is one of 78 high school athletes selected to play in the fourth annual event at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

"I want to finish my visits to these schools and then call and let the coach of the school I choose know of my decision before I announce it on television," Patton said. "I just want to make sure I see all my options before I commit."

But right now, the opportunity for Patton to stay in-state and still be in a good program has him seriously looking at the quarterback-needy Wildcats. Though Patton has visited K-State several times, his official visit isn't slated until December 12.

"I want to stay close to home and its nice knowing I don't have to go too far from home and still be with a winner," he said. "K-State was the first to offer me and all the people there are real nice and easy to talk to. I've been there and met with President (Jon) Wefald and Coach (Bill) Snyder. They care about you, the person, off the field and not just as a football player. It's just a great environment there."

Notes: Patton will visit Missouri on October 31 and then Kansas in early November. He visited Iowa and Michigan State in September. K-State defensive ends coach Joe Bob Clements has been overseeing Patton's recruitment.
