Wecker Big 12 Player of the Week

DALLAS – Kansas State junior forward Kendra Wecker was named Big 12 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time of her career Monday.

For the week, Wecker recorded two double-double performances to lead the nationally-ranked Wildcats to victories over Iowa State (15 points, 10 rebounds) on Feb. 4 and No. 11 Colorado (23 points, 10 rebounds) on Feb. 8. She averaged a team-leading 19.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game and shot 53.6 percent from the floor (15-of-28) and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Wecker also turned in 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.0 steals per game against ISU and CU combined.

The 5-foot-11 native of Marysville, Kan., became the second fastest Wildcat to reach 1,500 career points (88 career games), topping the number with her second basket of the game vs. the Buffs. Her 32 career double-doubles rank second all-time in school history. She has scored 20 or more points 16 times this season and 31 times in her three-year career at Kansas State. Wecker's double-double vs. CU was the fifth vs. a top 25 opponent this season. She moved into sixth all-time in career scoring with 1,520 career points to date.

K-State (17-3, 8-1), which climbed to No. 9 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll released Monday, has now earned league player of the week honors three times this year (Nicole Ohlde on Jan. 12 and Feb. 2). The top-ranked Texas Longhorns ( 21-2, 9-1) are the only other conference school to have three weekly honorees this season. Texas and Kansas State are No. 1 and No. 2 respectively in the latest Big 12 Conference standings.
