Top Recruit in Kansas Likes Cats
Top Recruit in Kansas Likes Cats

Olathe East Running Back Andre Jones is one of the most highly touted recruits in the state of Kansas and it is easy to see why. Rushing for 1400 yards as a junior (7 yards per carry) even after missing two games, the 6-1, 185 pound playmaker is one of the top rated RB's in the Big 12 area and has college football fans everywhere following his recruitment.
But for Jones, this summer is not a time to rest :" I am working hard everyday. I want to get my speed up and put on a little more weight. Do some things to get ready for the season. " Jones has been busy this summer already with summer workouts and looking toward the future :" I am a big college football fan so I like to watch all the games and think about playing for this team or that team."
For those who do not know, Andre can play on both sides of the ball at cornerback as well as running back. Running back is Andre's more natural position and the position that has college coaches all over the country drooling over his potential.
And where do the Cats stand right now? "Man I like the Wildcats. I have been down there a couple times and I've seen them play. I follow them and being from Kansas everyone knows about Kansas State. They have a really good offense and can run the ball and I like how they play."
This speedster who recently ran a 4.48 40 time said he keeps up with current Kansas State running back Darren Sproles:" Yea I have seen Darren play. He is a great running back and the situation at Kansas State is good for me. With Darren graduating I could be right in there. Being from the same area I know about Darren. A lot of people know about both of us around here…. I think I am the best running back in Kansas this year and I know what I can do on the field."
Playing time is clearly something that this recruit has been thinking about:" I want to play. I want to be able to come in and compete and see if I can earn a spot. I mean it is not something that is absolutely necessary but yea I want to get in there and play. I would prefer not to red-shirt."
Even if it is on special teams?;" Oh yea, special teams whatever. I want to be in there." As for a time frame, this recruit made it known that he wants to take all his visits for comparison and then make a decision. A decision which has Kansas State at the top of his list:" Kansas State is up there, they are definitely one of my top schools. Coach Elliot is recruiting me and they have offered….I was excited when they offered because they are a school I really like."
And could possibly the best prospect in the state of Kansas see himself playing for Kansas State?
"Definitely! I can easily see myself playing for them. I have seen them so many times and I know what they are all about, plus they have a really good situation for me there. I like em and yea I could see myself playing for them."
For those who do not know, Andre has excellent bloodlines as his cousin, Oklahoma's Santa Fe high school running back- Reggie Smith is easily one of the top running backs in Oklahoma and a National Blue Chip recruit. We will have more on Andre in PART II of this interview tomorrow including his thoughts on his cousin and more on the Cats.
