KSU is "a phone call away" from being No. 1

McKinner Dixon, the nation's No. 11 defensive end has K-State sitting No. 2 right now, but can change that with just one move - a phone call.

This recruit is one that can change recruiting classes. This recruit is sought after by almost everyone. And this recruit has Kansas State at No. 2 on his list of favorites.

McKinner Dixon is the No. 11 defensive end according to TheInsiders.com and right now has K-State just slightly behind the Texas Longhorns.

And one thing K-State has in its favor is that his former teammate and current Wildcat Aaron Darks is talking the Cats up big time.

"Aaron's been telling me a lot about K-State," he said. "He really likes it there, a perfect fit for him. I just talked to him the other day too and he said it is exactly what he thought it would be like. It's nice having someone there that I can trust and talk to about K-State. That's helping a lot."

Dixon, who is being recruited by K-State's recruiting coordinator Joe Bob Clements and has already been offered, is most turned on by the Wildcats' defensive mentality.

"They always go to the ball," he said. "It doesn't matter; they always swarm to the ball and try to strip it, looking for turnovers. That's exactly how I play too. I don't just try to get tackles to pad my stats. I always want to get the ball back in the hands of the offense and you can tell that's what the K-State defense is all about.

"That's what I'm looking for in teams right now—that mentality on defense."

However, though Dixon has an early offer on the table from K-State, he hasn't heard from them for some time.

"It's been a while really," he said. "I think it's been almost two months since I've heard anything from them. I don't have a number to contact them, but I would like to so I can see how I fit in with them at this point.

And despite that, Dixon continues to list the Cats at No. 2. So how close are the Wildcats to the top choice right now?

"They're a phone call away," he said.

Dixon said he intends to take an official visit to K-State in the fall. In fact, he wants to take all his visits before he makes a decision.

"I want to see everything about each school before I make up my mind," he said. "I want to see the atmosphere everywhere. I don't think I can make a good decision unless I see it all."
