The Wildcats have been nothing short of white hot in recruiting this summer with the verbal commitment of nine recruits to the class of 2005 thus far. Many of those nine hail from the State of Texas and the Cats are not through recruiting the state hard for some of it's better players. Berkner High's star DT ---Trey Bryant has the Cats high on his list of possible schools.

"I have a couple of schools that I am still looking at. I would say that BYU, Kansas State, Texas A&M , Mississippi State, Illinois, there are a bunch I am still looking at that I like right now."

Coach Elliot is recruiting this DT for the Cats and Trey says he gets mail from Coach Elliot and Kansas State regularly.

"Coach Elliot sends me lots of stuff and keeps in touch with me. K-State is a really good school and they send me letters a lot and keep in touch with me."

At 6'2, with 4.9 speed and just a hair over 300 pounds, Trey has spent the summer working out and trying to get a little stronger.

"In college, especially at me position you got to get stronger to play. My Coach tells me that it is a whole different game and I just want to keep working hard there so that I can compete and try and play."

The last time we had spoken with Trey, he had indicated that he wanted to commit early. Since that time, Trey has decided he would like to take a different approach to his recruitment.

"I wanted to commit to a school early before my senior year got started so that I was done and get it over with. But now I am thinking I just want to hold off, look around and take my time and then make my decision."

As for leaders right now

"Pretty much all of the schools are even right now. I think everyone has a shot and I want to see how everyone does this year. I really do not have a favorite that stands out- it is pretty even with all the schools."

As for what could possibly tip the scales in favor of one school or another

"I am going to check them all out over the season. I want to talk to the coaches and see how they do this season, watch a couple of their games. I really just want to talk to the coaches and look at each school but I want to see how each school does this year. "

Bryant currently has offers from BYU,Tulsa, Utah, Mississippi State, Arizona, SMU and Baylor but says that he has been told that other schools will be offering soon.

"I have been told I am going to get offers from a bunch of others schools. Right now I am open and want to look at everyone, then probably take some visits and put it together."

Having the speed and the size to play in the rugged Big 12 conference, Bryant is seeing his stock rise as the season draws closer.

"A lot of teams will try to run away from me, but I like to use my speed sideline to sideline and hunt them down. I love to catch them from behind; they are not going to get away from me. When I catch them, I punish them," said Bryant.
