Originally from Houston, Texas…..Colorado prospect Jerrell Yates now calls Montbello High School in Denver home. Standing a little over 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, Yates is quickly moving up recruiting charts at the wide receiver position, in large part due to his 4.44 speed in the forty. With coaches again able to contact recruits via phone, Jerrell says that past couple of days have been very busy for him.

"Yea man it has been sick. The phone has been ringing off the hook to tell you the truth. I just missed two calls when I went out to go set some things (laughing) Yea it's been a little crazy.

Jerrell is no stranger to Kansas State football or Manhattan.

‘My cousin played for K-State so I know all about them. Yea, Derrick Yates is my cousin and just for some reason they (KSU) have always just been a school I like. I know a lot about them and I have just always liked them."

Although living in Colorado and really happy with his new surroundings, Jerrell says his is looking at out-of-state schools as well and leaving the state of Colorado is not an issue.

"Right now my top schools are K-State, UCLA, CU, CSU and maybe some of the Texas schools because I came from there."

Being recruited almost exclusively as a wide receiver, Jerrell admits he would like to play both ways. "Man if I could find a school that would let me play both ways that is something I would really take a look at. I would love to be able to play on defense too."

Asked what he thought his best position was however, Yates admits it is probably on the offensive side of the ball where he earned first team all conference honors last year.

"Wide Receiver is my best position. I just loving playing football though. I would play anywhere you put me but Receiver is probably where I end up and is my best position right now."

Yates has yet to schedule any visits and says he would like to take his time, concentrate in his season and will look to schedule official visits sometime later in the year.

"I am probably just going to wait and play my senior season more, talk with my coach and get through more of this season before I start scheduling things. I wanted to try and schedule an official for this past weekend but it just did not work out that way but I will probably start scheduling my officials mid way through the season."

Although he has yet to schedule anything officially, Jerrell admits that the Cats will more then likely get an official visit.

"Yea I want to go and check it out. They (Kansas State) will more then likely get a visit cause like I said, just for some reason I have always followed them and liked them."

We will be calling Jerrell throughout his season to check back with him as his season progresses and he starts setting visits.
