Colorado LB Names his Leader
Colorado LB Names his Leader
By Sean Kelly
This past weekend the Kansas State Wildcats hosted a handful of recruits for their home game with Fresno State and on hand was Denver Mullen's standout LB---Jake Duren. Duren who is currently being courted by Kansas State, UCLA, Colorado and Colorado State made the trip this weekend with his parents having already tripped to Manhattan this past summer in order to get a better look at the Campus and the atmosphere on gameday.
Even with a Wildcat upset at the hands of Fresno State, Duren says the visit could not have gone any better.
"Tough loss but what a great game. The fans and everyone there was just great, it was just a really good time and a great atmosphere."
Asked who currently lead after his visit: "Kansas State " said Duren chuckling without skipping a beat.
So what does a typical gameday visit to Manhattan hold?
"We got in about 9:15 and got a tour of the academic visit and had some breakfast from Coach Clements restaurant. Then we met with some of their academic advisors and got a good look at everything and spoke with them about academics there. After that we kind of toured all the football facilities and once we wrapped that up, they kinda took us out through the tunnel right down onto the field and let me tell you it was amazing. The feeling was amazing. Our seats we at about the 35 (yardline) and we really got to see everything up close."
Although the Cats eventually lost the game, Duren says it will have no effect on his decision.
"They just had an off game, that's all. Them losing really does not effect anything, I just think they did not play as well as they could that's all."
In terms of his visit, this weekend went a long way in solidifying the Cats as the leader for this out of state prospect.
"Going out there I thought it would just be a good game you know, just a regular college game but it wasn't. The visit more then met my expectations. But the whole town is all about the football team and like the tailgating and I got there and we went outside and the band was playing, players were totally pumped up and the student section was just going crazy. It was just an awesome atmosphere."
In terms of recruiting, Jake did not get a chance to speak much with the coaches.
"We really did not get a chance to meet much with the coaches just because they were so busy. Right before the game started all the coaches came by to say hello and they shook our hand right before we went out. I was just really trying to take it all in and enjoy myself."
As far as official visits are concerned, this Colorado standout says the Cats will definitely get a visit-- the question is whether he will be a Wildcat commit or not when he takes the visit.
"Kansas State is my leader. You know if I were to get an offer from Kansas State, after the visits I have already took there and stuff and what I have seen already, I would love to commit early."
Jake has yet to officially schedule any official visits but says he will be in contact with the Wildcat coaching staff in the future to schedule one. Having seen the campus and a gameday experience in Manhattan, Duren says "right now I am just really comfortable with the coaches and pretty much the whole town."
Stay tuned as we will be checking back with Jake though out his season .
