K-STATE CHOSEN TO LINDY'S PRESEASON WOMEN'S TOP 25 LIST

MANHATTAN, Kan. – With nearly two months left until the official start of the 2004-05 women's college basketball season, the Kansas State women's basketball team has been selected to the Lindy's College Basketball Annual preseason women's top 25.

The Wildcats, coming off their first Big 12 Conference title in 2004 and a No. 2 seed in last year's NCAA Tournament, were picked 19th. Tennessee, LSU, Texas, Georgia and Connecticut rounded out the top five teams on the preseason list. Of the 25 teams selected, five programs hailed from the Big 12.

K-State returns three starters from last year's 25-6 squad which finished eighth in the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll and 15th in the USA TODAY/ESPN Coaches Top 25 Poll. Seniors Kendra Wecker (5-11, F, Marysville, Kan.), Laurie Koehn (G, 5-8, Hesston, Kan.) and Megan Mahoney (F/G, 6-0, Sturgis, S.D.), headline the Wildcats' top returners and were All-Big 12 selections a year ago.

Wecker, a preseason Wade, Naismith and Wooden Award candidate, was honored on the publication's first team All-America team along with LSU's Seimone Augustus, Minnesota's Janel McCarville, DePaul's Khara Smith and Notre Dame's Jacqueline Batteast. The 2004-05 edition of Lindy's College Basketball Annual hits newstands today.
