K-State Cruises to Final Exhibition Win, 97-44

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Four Kansas State players reached double figures as the Wildcats sailed to a 97-44 women's basketball exhibition win over Athletes in Action Sunday. Senior Laurie Koehn posted 22 points and senior Megan Mahoney added 20 points and 10 rebounds.

The first half was all Wildcats as K-State shot 47.5 percent from the field, including 6-12 from beyond the arc, for a 46-18 halftime lead. Kansas State was led by Koehn with 15, on five of seven three-point shooting (6 for 10 in the game), and Mahoney and senior Kendra Wecker with 10 apiece. The K-State defense held Athletes in Action to just 21.7 percent from the field in the half (5-of-23) and snared 31 rebounds to the visitors' 13. Mahoney led the Wildcats with eight boards, with Wecker snagging seven.

The second half opened with an Athletes in Action 10-0 run. The run was ended on a layup by junior Jessica McFarland, giving the Wildcats a 48-28 advantage. Kansas State posted a 20-2 run of its own after the McFarland layup. The run ended on a three-pointer by Wecker, giving the Wildcats a 68-30 lead and sealing the final outcome.

In the second half, K-State shot 43.9 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from beyond the arc. The intense defensive pressure by the Wildcats forced Athletes in Action into 17 turnovers in the second half (28 for the game).

Leading scorers for the Wildcats aside from Koehn and Mahoney were Wecker with 19 and sophomore Twiggy McIntyre with 10 points off the bench. Kansas State finished with 36 points off the bench.

Athletes in Action was led by Katrina Green with 10 and Jenny Crouse with 9.

Kansas State will begin the regular non-conference season on Friday, Nov. 19 against Wyoming. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum.
