California LB To Commit to the Wildcats

Although not official yet as he has not had the opportunity to speak with Coach Miller- Pasadena City College's highly touted linebacker -Marcus Raines says he is committed to Kansas State.

Although still not official yet, Marcus Raines has all but added his name to the list of Wildcat Commits.

"Yes sir, I have not officially talked to Coach Miller yet but I am going to commit as soon as I can get a hold of Coach Miller."

The highly rated linebacker from Pasadena College took a visit to Manhattan a little over a week ago and bonded with numerous other recruits on his visit. So much so that he has vowed to call one of the visitors to Manhattan and see if he would like to join him at K-State.

"I know that Bobby Jones and I are real tight and we just had a great time when we visited K-State. I know that he committed but I am not sure how official that is. I mean how official is his commit that is what I want to find out. I know that he was trying to get a hold of me the night before he committed and I think that might have a bit to do with why he committed somewhere else. I am going to call him though and talk to him."

With three years to play two years, Marcus will start his career with the Cats at weak side linebacker.

"I spoke with Coach Cosh the other night and I know they are going to bring in a couple more linebackers but they are going to have me start at the will spot."

Definitely filling a need at a need position for the Cats, Marcus said his visit to Manhattan was one of the most important deciding factors in his commitment.

"I feel great about the Kansas State program. I spoke with Coach Miller yesterday when he came by to Pasadena College. And basically I just sat down with him and I told him how much I love the Kansas State program. How much I loved my visit down there, I thought it was great I thought the people were great and I would love to play there. I just wanted to come to Kansas State and my visit just was great down there."

Having seen Kansas State on television a couple times already this year, Marcus said that one game in particular really stands out for him when he thinks about K-State.

"After I saw the classics game against Texas A&M (1998's Big 12 Championship), that pretty much made my decision for me right there. That was it- it was over after that."

As far as additional visits, Marcus says that there are numerous schools that are calling him and trying to schedule him for official visits. Although he says his commitment to Kansas State is solid, he does admit that he might take a couple other visits.

"At the moment, I am kind of undecided on taking other trips. Right now I am feeling very strongly about my decision with Kansas State and I am very committed to Kansas State and I am not really sure where but I might take a couple other trips and check some other schools out. I feel very strongly about being committed to the Kansas State program but I might take some other visits. Arkansas called me the other day and LSU and Washington State called again and I have spoken with them on the phone but again, right now my feelings are just really strongly for K-State and I have not officially committed but that is my number one school and where I want to go."

Originally from Littlerock, Raines is one of the top Jr. College Linebackers in the country. As for his visit to Manhattan, Marcus wanted me to send a word out to the Wildcat Faithful.

"I really want the Kansas State fans to know I had a great time on my visit and that I am committed to Kansas State and to bringing the program back to excellence."

We will check back with Marcus as signing day edges closer.
