Cats Pick up another Commitment
The biggest weekend in K-State recruiting thus far this season is paying dividends as the Cat coaching staff picked up the second commitment of the evening when LB- Reggie Walker pledged to Kansas State.
"Yea man, I did it. I told you I was going to commit and I just thought to myself- why not just get it over with? K-State is where I wanted to go and I just did not want to hang anymore. I was talking to Coach Miller tonight and he let me know Mackenzie committed. He told me they were going to take three linebackers and that I was the top rated linebacker on their board. (Laughing) I told you where I was going to go last night and when Coach (Miller) called I just wanted to let him know."
As for the conversation with Coach Miller, Walker says that the commitment of Rosel did have an effect.
"Well when Mackenzie committed I knew that they were filling up fast and I wanted to be a part of it (the recruiting class). Coach Miller told me about Mackenzie and asked me "You want to join him and get on board?' I was going to take that trip to Fresno State just to take a look around but it was just to see what it was like for comparison. I just wanted to hold it up against K-State and see but then I realized last night- I just wanted to go to K-State."
As for future plans, the linebacker says he is through with recruiting.
"Yea- it's over. I am done. I am not going to go anywhere else and I am just really happy to be going there. I am done."
As for his career at K-State?
"Coach Miller and I talked about where I fit in the depth chart. I can play all three spots for them and they are done recruiting at the linebacker position. I am the last piece there. They say they would like me to put on some more weight and I can do that no problem. Right now I am fast enough to play anywhere in their scheme and they do not want me to red-shirt. They said as fast as I can get to Manhattan is as fast as I can start trying to play into a position and they want me to come in and compete. I mean I would red-shirt if they wanted me to- I would not like it but I would. But they want me to play now and try to compete to get in the rotation- wherever they put me is fine."
In choosing Kansas State, Walker says the people and the coaches were the difference.
"Those people know who you are, what you play what number you want to be- they know it all and I really liked that. When I was talking with Coach Snyder he was just upfront with me. He told me they were going to probably take three linebackers in this class. The coaches sat me down and showed me film, layed it out for me as to where I fit in. I really like the coaching staff and that everyone is so into the football there. Then when Coach Miller called me tonight to let me know they had picked up a commitment and that I was still at the top of their board, I knew they wanted me and were calling me before calling some of the other recruits on the board for a reason. I did not want to have him call me again to ask- I told him where I wanted to go all along."
As I mentioned last night- Walker was 99% sure that he wanted to come to Manhattan and was the Cats to lose. In looking at his impending trip to Fresno State- Walker decided that it was not worth the risk of losing the chance to play for K-State for comparision. As reported, I felt Walker was all but in the bag for the Cats and only needed someone to ask him if he wanted to come on board.
Walker is the second commitment of the night and OL- Mike Frieson says he may have a decision tomorrow. If the train is not already full- seats are filling up fast.
