Wecker Named Big 12 Player of the Week

DALLAS – For the second time this season and sixth time of her career, Kansas State's Kendra Wecker was named Big 12 Conference Player of the Week by the league office Monday.

Players are nominated by each school's sports information office and voted on by a panel of media who cover Big 12 women's basketball.

Wecker returned to the starting lineup vs. Villanova on Dec. 28 after missing nearly a month of play (three games) recovering from a sprained left ankle suffered vs. New Hampshire on Dec. 3. In her return, she led the No. 22-ranked Wildcats (9-2) to a 3-0 week with three-straight double-double performances.

Wecker recorded 25 points and 12 rebounds vs. Villanova, 21 points and a season-high 14 rebounds at Saint Joseph's on Dec. 30 and 24 points and 10 rebounds vs. Central Connecticut State on Jan. 2. Against CCSU, Wecker set the K-State record for career double-doubles with 40, passing former Wildcat Nicole Ohlde's 39 from 2000-04.

For the week, Wecker shot 57.7 percent (30-of-52) from the floor, 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from the three-point line and went perfect from the charity stripe (4-of-4). She averaged 23.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Wecker's 24 points against CCSU was one more than the entire opposing team combined.

This season Wecker has recorded five double-doubles, scored in double-figures in seven-of-eight games played and registered five 20+ point games. She currently ranks second all-time in career scoring (1,897) and third all-time in career rebounding (868) at K-State.
