Matt Wykes Remains Hopeful of a KSU offer

One of the State of Kansas' best quarterbacks is looking at three schools with National Signing Day only a day away. Matt Wykes of Conway Springs, KS is looking at Kansas State and talking to the K-State Coaching staff.

One of the best Quarterback's in the state of Kansas, Matt Wykes of Conway Springs says he is hoping for a K-State scholarship offer with only a day left before National Signing Day. Wykes, a 6-foot-3 quarterback with 4.5 speed and good size at over 200 pounds, says he is in contact with the Kansas State coaching staff as signing day approaches.

"Matt has been talking with Coach Clements for some time now. We have been waiting as Kansas State has shown Matt a good deal of attention in recruiting him and we are just trying to be patient and see if a scholarship avails itself right now," Bruce Wykes told KStateFans.

Matt who currently is looking at Kansas State, Kansas and Nebraska and hoping that something changes that will allow him to fulfill his lifelong dream of playing D1 football.

"We have talked to all three programs and I know that Kansas State wanted to take two quarterbacks in this class and with the change in the class (Zac Robinson) we are hopeful that there will be a scholarship for Matt. Right now we are talking to Coach Clements and it has been Matt's dream to play Division 1 football. Someone is going to get one heck of a football player."

Wykes, who has been offered preferential walk-on status at all three schools, does have scholarship offers from non D1 programs.

"Well there are a number of schools that have expressed interest in Matt at the D2 and D3 levels. He has a couple scholarship offers from some of those schools but he is a Kansas kid and has always wanted to stay and play D1 football here in-state," said Bruce Wykes.

Matt who has been in contact with the Nebraska, Kansas and K-State coaches says that he has been told that right now there may not be a scholarship offer for him available.

"Nebraska has told him that if something opens up that they may have a scholarship for him but that is not a definite. You know with recruiting anything can happen but I am not just saying this as his dad, someone is going to get a heckuva ball player and they just need to give him a chance. He can play and has already proven that and he is just looking for someone to give him a chance to prove what he can do at the college level. Some think he is the best QB in the state this year,"

With signing day only a day away, the Wykes are keeping all doors on communication open with the coaching staff's from each school.

"It is a tough decision to walk-on when you have scholarship offers. I mean his dream is to play D1 football but it is expensive to attend college these days and it is really just a very hard decision to turn down a scholarship offer and then walk-on but that is what we may be looking at."

With scholarships and classes quickly filling up- Matt Wykes remains hopeful he will end up playing his ball in Kansas and 'hopefully in a K-State Uniform.'
