Oakland (Calif.) defensive tackle/defensive end Derrick Hill (6-2, 270, 5.3) has started making plans and says he has almost all five of his visits set up, he is just waiting on one school and thinking about his last visit.
‘I am going to Washington in two weeks for the Notre Dame game. I go to Arizona on the 21 or 22nd of October and I can't remember when I am going to trip to Oregon, it is like two weeks after the Arizona trip but it is when Oregon plays Oregon State (Nov. 19th) been then I go to USC and Cal probably after that," said Hill.
With offers from every Pac 10 team in the country as well as almost every team on the West Coast, Hills says that Kansas State is a school that has really started recruiting him heavily again and he has been in contact with the K-State coaching staff.
"Well, Kansas State is a school that offered me a long time ago. Yea, they even offered me before USC offered and back then they were in my top seven schools. I was talking with my parents and coach and you know they (KSU) were really high and then all of a sudden it is like they just stopped recruiting me," said the ultra talented defensive tackle.
Hills says that although he holds close to 20+ scholarship offers, the Kansas State coaching staff has made up some ground of recent but it might be a case of a little too late.
"You know I got most of my visits set up but they have been coming on recently and I put it to the coaches there like this, I have one visit that I am looking at right now that I might not take and I would be interested in taking a trip there but I am not guaranteeing anything. I mean it is something I might do but I am not going to tell them yes I am taking it. I am just looking at it right now and thinking about it- I'll put it like that."
One thing that Hill says is that he wants to take a wait and see approach from K-State prior to possibly setting up a visit to gauge the interest level.
"I mean for a minute they like offered and then they just stopped recruiting me I guess. I mean they just stopped. I did not even hear from them for a while I mean like a month and a half or so. But it has picked up a lot since like late December. They are showing me the love now but when I spoke I told them it is a possibility but not a guarantee and I mean when they did start again they did start showing a whole bunch of love and I kind of appreciated it. And knowing they do want me and are interested, that play a factor for me too. But I am going to see what happens and wait right now to see what they do," said Hill.
With that in mind, Hill did say that he has always wanted to see Kansas and the area and when the Cats first offered he was very excited, something that may play a factor in terms of where he takes his last visit.
"When Kansas State offered, I was really excited. I mean they were one of my top schools at that time and I have always wanted to go and check out that part of the country, I mean I still do. Once USC offered though, I really had to start thinking about that and the trips. I mean I was set and ready to go see Kansas State and I still might you know," said Hill about a possible visit to Manhattan.
Hill says that his school favorites change constantly and that there is not really any one school that stands out.
"Pre-High school my favorite school was Notre Dame. In ninth grade it was USC, 10th grade it became Oregon and then 11th grade it became Cal and right now I am not even sure. I have no clue," says Hill.
Asked if it is too late for Kansas State, Hill said, "I would not say that. It is never too late but I am going to see what happens."
