Former Wildcat Quits School

Marques Hayden, a former Kansas State forward who left the team last season and transferred to Washburn, has quit the NCAA Division II team and left school.

In a release issued Tuesday, Washburn basketball coach Bob Chipman said Hayden withdrew from classes for personal reasons and would not join the Ichabods this season.

Washburn is the three-time defending champion in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

''Marques could have been a dominant player in the MIAA,'' Chipman said.

The 6-foot-7, 235-poind Hayden, from Putnam City, Okla., was shooting 43.2 percent from the field, averaging 6.8 points and 5.3 rebounds when he left the Wildcats in February, just before his junior season ended.

Before he left, Hayden said he was not fitting into the team's system.

Wildcats Jim Wooldridge said numerous ailments, including migraines, cut Hayden's playing time.
