NEO LB Picks K-State

There isn't a day that goes by that we aren't talking about the NEO to Kansas State pipeline. K-State has cleaned up at NEO and their best commitment from that junior college could be linebacker Justin Roland. Roland comes by the way of Ponca City, Okla., where he excelled in another sport.

"Our school (Ponca City) wasn't very good in football," Justin Roland said. "I was a wrestler and we had a real good program. Football was always my No. 1 sport though. I always wanted to play football.

"It just so happens that I ended up at NEO and was only one of a few freshmen that actually got to play. I played linebacker and was fifth in the conference in tackles. When I came back for Christmas break at this time, I had like 40 letters from schools waiting for Me.

"The teams that came through the school to see me were Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Kansas State and UNLV.

"My favorites were Kansas State, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and UNLV. I ended up giving Kansas State my verbal commitment the other day. There were a few different reasons for my decision.

"Kansas State is big-time D-1 football," Roland explained. "I had a few different options but in the end, I liked Kansas State the most and I have a couple of teammates, Devin Anderson and Antwon Moore, going to Kansas State as well. We're all from Ponca City and we wanted to stay together."

Roland led the conference in tackles in '05 and he second in the conference in sacks with nine. Justin was an honorable-mention All-America selection.

Roland will visit Kansas State (1-20) in January and he also has a visit set up with UNLV (1-13) in December. Will Roland make that trip to UNLV?

"I'm not completely sure yet," Roland said. "I could still take my UNLV visit. I might visit Oklahoma State and Iowa State. The door isn't shut yet but it's getting close. I have a lot of respect for Coach (Ron) Prince and Kansas State and it would take something special to make me change my mind."
