Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley quarterback Jeff Panfil is a name that has picked up attention in the past couple of weeks. After taking an official visit to Kansas State in mid December, the Texas QB says he will take a visit to Purdue and New Mexico before making a decision.
"My visit to Kansas State was good but I am going to take my visits before I make a decision. I got to hang out with the players and I got to meet Coach Prince and talk with him and just get to know him," Panfil told KStateFans.
Jeff, who was honored this year (2005-06) as the 5A district 4 player of the year says that he has a top three right now and he would like to see how they compare to one another after he takes his trips.
"My top three right now are Kansas State, Purdue and then probably Vanderbilt. I have a visit to Purdue on the 13th of January and then I can look at the schools and compare them more," said Panfil.
With the chance to meet Coach Prince, Panfil says he came away impressed with new K-State Head Coach Ron Prince.
"Coach Prince is a very laid back guy and easy to talk to. I got to speak with him in his office and meet with the other coaches and they definitely have a plan with where they want to go and what they are trying to do. I know the type of player they want and what they expect and they have a plan for where they want to take the program."
In terms of offense, Panfil says that he would like to play in an offense that is a little more pass oriented and at 6-foot-5 and close to 190 pounds he certainly fits the bill physically. Although the Cats were not recruiting him under former Head Coach Bill Snyder, Panfil says the current coaching regime has his attention and has certainly positioned K-State in his recruitment.
"Well when I talked with Coach Prince he told me about the offense that he would like to run which is a little more based on my style of play. He told me that they are going to run a more pro style offense and they will use two and three receivers sometimes and stretch the field. That is something that suits my style of play. I would like to play in something where I can throw the ball and move it around the field."
"Before Coach Prince I was not being recruited by Kansas State…..but that's not really important. Coach Prince has let me know they want me there and I just need to look around and find the right spot for me. I had a good time there on my trip, it was good and they are still at the top with probably Purdue right now," Panfil said.
We will be checking back with Panfil following his other visits to bring you the very latest in his recruitment.
