Bowens picks up K-State Offer

Taking his frist visit to Manhattan, Winston Bowers came away with a scholarship offer and an impending in-house visit with the K-State coaching staff......

Prior to taking his official visit to Manhattan this weekend, College Park (Ga.) North Clayton Winston Bowens said he did not know what to expect. Having taken his trip and picked up and an offer, the 6-foot, 228 inside linebacker says his trip went well.

"I really did not know what to expect before my visit but I got to talk with the coaches and meet the players. That was the big part right there. Just meeting everyone and seeing how they get along and all. I got to meet with the new defensive coordinator they brought in from Tampa Bay plays and he plays to get after you."

"I really did not get to talk too much to everyone about offers and everything. I know they offered Donnell (Summers) too. Coach Prince just told me that they want me there and that they want me in their defense. I think they wanted me to commit but you know, like we were talking about before the visit, I am not going to commit just yet. They need to talk to my parents and my family. My family is important in any decision that I make and I am going to step back and talk with them first. See what they have to say and all," said Bowens.

Although he made the trip to Manhattan with fellow teammate Donnell Summers, Bowens says that it is not likely that they will both end up at the same school.

"You know we talk about it and all but I am not sure what he wants to do. I still have some visits to make and all and I am not sure what he is going to do. I had a good time on my visit and all but we got to do what is best for us. He may have something that works better for him and I may have some place better too. We talk and all but we have not really talked much about playing together."

Listed as a middle linebacker, Bowens says he is comfortable pretty much anywhere you put him.

"I can play and three of the positions. I generally like to play in the middle but with my size, I can play both outside spots and inside too. I use my speed and can chase you down from the back or hit you at the line. I am not sure what they are recruiting me at, which spot but I can play them all."

With a chance to finally meet Coach Prince, Bowens says he came away impressed with the coaching staff.

"This was the first time that I got to meet with Coach Prince. He is a pretty cool guy. Coach Washington is supposed to come and visit and talk with my parents and all probably sometime tomorrow, maybe the next day I am not sure just yet. After that I will just talk with my family you know."

Winston says that he has official visits to Memphis next week and then will make a trip to Mississippi State on January the 27th.
