Wildcat fans know the name Coffman very well and for those too young to remember the exploits of former K-State tight end great Paul Coffman, his son Carson Coffman has just joined the Wildcat family.
"I am just really excited to get down there and it is just something that I have been thinking about for a long time and it is such a relief to commit and know where I am going."
The coaches at North Texas, who was the heavy favorite to land the talented prospect until his official visit to Manhattan this past weekend, have been informed of Carson's decision.
"Yes I called and let North Texas know. I think they are going to respect my decision to go to Kansas State. I think it is over. I know they are disappointed and they were my number one choice the whole time all the way until I took my official visit to K-State. But at K-State, I just liked the coaches, I liked the energy and I just really liked my visit there."
"I will just be a part time student the first semester. I will lift and go to team meetings and everything but I will not actually practice. Then second semester it will just be normal. I will be going to spring ball and everything and just start competing," said the 6-foot-4 and 190 pound quarterback.
Despite the fact that the K-State coaches have numerous quarterbacks on campus now, Carson says he is looking forward to the challenge of playing.
"Wherever you got here is going to be competition. Wherever I go I am going to have to compete, there are going to be other quarterbacks there so to me it really did not even matter really. I mean I think I fit best there and I think I can be competitive."
Having told the Coaching staff of his decision, Carson said Coach Prince got a little riled up.
"Coach Prince said he was pumped for me to commit. He said he was pumped that I was coming and just told me that he was excited for me. Just that he was excited I am coming there. My dad was excited though too. Having gone to K-State and all, I think he knew though after the visit. He kind of knew after we took the official. He knew I was leaning heavy to K-State then."
One the eve of signing day, Carson asked me to give the Purple Horde a message.
"Just let them all know that I am excited to be a Wildcat and I am going to work hard and hopefully get to play pretty soon."
