Manhattan city officials said this morning that Ivan Wilkinson, the city's recreation supervisor, had resigned on Tuesday. They did not say the precise reason, but the city said last Friday that it was investigating the loss of "tens of thousands" of dollars from the recreation division of the city's Parks and Recreation Department. That loss was apparently from concession stand receipts and tournament entry fees over a number of years.
The investigation also involved alleged fantasy sports gambling.
No arrests have been made.
Wilkinson had been a full-time city employee for 23 years.
He is perhaps best known as the public-address announcer at Kansas State University football and men's basketball games. In particular, his call of "K-State fans...are you ready?" and "Good for another Wildcat FIRST DOWN" have become signature items during the rise of the K-State football program.
K-State associate athletics director Casey Scott said Wilkinson had told athletics director Tim Weiser on Tuesday that he needed to stop doing the P.A. work "for personal reasons." Wilkinson was a contract employee at K-State.
