The Very Latest on Jason Bennett

Want the VERY latest update on the recruitment of one of the Elite Basketball Players in the country: Jason Bennett? As of Monday Morning.....Here is the Latest!

Jacksonville (Fla.) Arlington Country Day center Jason Bennett took an official visit this past Thursday when he elected to visit Kansas State and meet with newly hired Head Basketball Coach Bob Huggins. The 7-foot-3, 240-pound Big Man traveled to Manhattan, Kan. for only his second official visit and is set to announce his decision at 12:30 pm CST on Wednesday. A tight two horse race between Auburn and Kansas State, the four star prospect who is rated as the No. 8 prospect in the nation, had a very good trip to K-State and as of this morning, was weighing his options.

One of the elite players in the country, Jason Bennett made only his second official visit to Kansas State this past week and with the hiring of Head Coach Bob Huggins, K-State looks to have made a very good impression on the star center.

"He is deciding what he is going to do right now. He feels he will have a decision by Wednesday and we are going to have an announcement then here at the school. But I know he liked his visit to Manhattan and Kansas State…... There were two things that really impressed Jason on his visit. One was his meeting with the president of the school and the second was the people there in Manhattan, Kansas. The people that he met everywhere he went, and how friendly they were. He was very impressed meeting the president. He relayed to me that the president was a very nice person and that he seemed to care about all the students there. And that the students and the faculty that he met and the people that he met in the community there were all so friendly. Those were two things that I think really stood out to him when I spoke with him briefly this morning," said Country Day coach Rex Morgan.

In looking to bring our readers the very latest information and insight into Bennett's decision, KStateFans asked Coach Morgan if he had any indication which way Jason was leaning but the Head Coach is keeping his cards close to the vest.

"(Laughing) Well I think that is a situation that we will announce on Wednesday. Jason is weighing everything right now but I can tell you that it is between Kansas State and Auburn right now," Coach Morgan told KStateFans.

The hiring of Coach Huggins as the new Head Coach is clearly paying early dividends and although it will not be "the" reason Jason Bennett may come to Kansas State, it certainly is "the" reason he ever came for a visit.

"The main thing was for him to go down there was Coach Huggins. If Coach Huggins had not have been there he would not have gone down to Kansas State. But he is not going there solely because Coach Huggins is there. I think if he does go it is because of Coach Huggins and the program, of what they have in place and what he can accomplish there. Coach Huggins has been a big part in his recruitment there but he is not the only reason that Jason would go to Kansas State. I know he had a good visit there and as of this morning he is thinking things through."

One of the premier centers and top players in the country, Jason Bennett looks to make an immediate impact wherever he decides to play.

"They have not talked to him about playing time. They have not gotten that far in conversation with him in that discussion but I know my conversations with Coach Huggins. And that is they are looking for him to come in and play. You know he has to earn it but they are looking for him to play right away. I know they would be surprised if he did not come in and contribute right away and that is what has been relayed to me," said Coach Morgan early Monday morning.

Signing period and first day a player may sign a National Letter-of-Intent opens on Wednesday, a day Wildcat fans need to have circled on their calendar as Bennett looks to announce and sign his letter of intent this Wednesday. Jason will hold a small conference at Arlington Country Day High School to announce his decision between Kansas State and Auburn.
