Power Forward Ready to Talk to K-State

While Coach Huggins was at Cincy he made quite a few impressions- some quite lasting. Although playing in the Tournament of Champions in North Carolina and then attending the Nike All-American Camp - this 6-foot-7 Power Forward says he is looking forward to talking again with Coach Huggins.......

Hard work has A.J. Stewart showing an improved game every time he steps on the court. Now that the high school season is over the 6-7, 210-pound PF is back at his brutal routine and is working hard in the weight room.

"Every morning before schools at 6:30 I'm lifting," the Jacksonville (FL) Arlington product said.

However, his strength isn't the only area that needs improvement. When we called Stewart was going through a work out trying to improve his jump shooting and ball handling.

"You have too(work hard), I don't really have a choice," Stewart said. "Everyone else is out there getting better, I have to do something."

Stewart traveled to Germany during the spring and participated in an Albert Schweitzer tournament with Team USA, therefore Stewart wasn't that visible in the April evaluation period. However, Stewart is looking forward to a number of other events this summer.

This coming weekend Stewart will be in North Carolina for the Tournament of Champions. Following that he will participate in the NBPA Camp, Nike All-American Camp then will play tournaments in Las Vegas and Atlanta. Stewart is looking forward to playing against the best competition.

"I've been doing all of this work and I want to see if I've gotten any better from last year," Stewart said.

While he wasn't that visible during the open period college coaches know all about A.J. Stewart. The schools recruiting him the hardest are Florida State, Miami, Wake Forest and Illinois. However schools like Alabama, Clemson, Auburn, Syracuse, Xavier, Dayton, Indiana and Michigan have all shown interest as well.

One school in particular that hasn't shown much recent interest is Kansas State. But Coach Huggins recruited Stewart when he was at Cincinnati and according to Stewart the two are supposed to talk soon.

"Coach tells me that they are," Stewart said when asked if Kansas State was showing interest. "I used to talk to Coach Huggins a lot when he was at Cincinnati, now he's at Kansas State. Rex (Morgan) and Coach Huggins are good friends and Rex tells me they are looking at me. I'm supposed to talk to them later this week."
