Purple Pride has learned that Kansas State will soon sign an eight-figure, six-year contract with Nike, which will include equipment and cash considerations.
Kansas State athletics director Tim Weiser would only say, "Football has always had its needs met, but we hadn't been totally successful with the needs of our other 15 programs. We think that's about ready to change."
That changed with the "Huggins" factor as shortly after Bob Huggins was hired as the Wildcats basketball coach last spring, Nike reportedly made contact with Kansas State to become a Nike-school.
Weiser confirmed, "It might have just been coincidence, but time-wise, it did factor in with when Bob was hired. I would sense it (Huggins' hire) had an awful lot to do with their call."
Kansas State would be one of only 10 or 12 sports programs in the country to be totally outfitted in Nike equipment.
