Wide receiver Ernie Pierce attracted a lot of attention this fall at Santa Barbara Community College.
"I think Ernie's been telling everyone that Kansas State is his leader right now," said Santa Barbara head coach Reggie Bolton. "He has an offer from Troy, but I'm pretty confident Kansas State is going to offer too. Their wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator have been up here, so I think it could happen pretty soon. The only thing they were waiting on was grades, but I don't think that's going to be an issue."
This year at Santa Barbara, Pierce had 10 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown. He also caught 36 passes for 661 yards and four scores. Pierce also served as his team's return man. He finished second in his conference in all-purpose yardage.
"He has improved a lot since he's been here," said Bolton. "He's gotten a lot bigger and stronger, and his speed has improved because of that. He's very elusive for a 6-4 guy and can make a guy miss in the open field. He has a lot of upside."
Aside from K-State and Troy, Pierce has heard from most of the schools in the Pac 10, among others.
"We've had a lot of coaches asking for film on Ernie. Washington was on him really early, and so were Cal and Oregon. Temple has been recruiting him. There have just been a lot of schools. Right now Kansas State really seems like they're his favorite though."
While Pierce will be in Manhattan this weekend he will take an official visit to Troy a week later. He plans on waiting until the summer to arrive at the school he chooses.
