"It was real good," Darran Kinsey said of his official visit. "It was better than what I thought it would be. I really do love the school and like what I have seen. It was like a lot of Florida people up there, so I felt like I was home. I really did like the school. I loved it."
The 6-1, 230-pound defensive standout offered a play-by-play of his weekend.
"I arrived up there Thursday, and we just went to the hotel," he said. "Friday morning I went to the stadium and met some of the players. They gave me a tour around the school and then went back to the stadium to meet with my host. His name was Josh Moore. He was a Big 12 All-American from Florida. We just chilled out."
"Saturday and Sunday we did the same thing. Just a lot of sight-seeing up here in Manhattan. They gave me a Kansas State jersey with a helmet to try on to see how I liked it. I really did love everything, and it was better than I thought it would be."
Being from south Florida where the weather is always warm and sunny, Kinsey shared a fun part of his trip.
"Man, the weather was cool," he said. "My favorite part of the trip was a snow fight we had. It was the first time I have ever seen snow."
Kinsey also pointed out meeting the coaches as a favorite part of the trip.
"Coach Ron Prince is a great guy," he said. "When they talked to me one of the first things all the coaches said to me was academics first then football. That was something people really need to know. It is not guaranteed everyone is going to make it to the NFL. I was like shocked that a coach came at me and said academics first because usually it is football first."
Kinsey talked about the chances of the Wildcats landing his signature.
"It is going to be a tough one to break," he said. "I love what I have seen. It looks like I will be up there. It looks like they (Kansas State) probably will have my signature. It will be tough for someone to out do them right now. It looks like I will be up there in Manhattan with the things are looking right now."
