A Closer Look: Jarrett Ben

Continuing our coverage of the top senior-to-be defensive backs KStateFans.com introduces you to Jarrett Ben, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound athlete (sporting a total of eight official scholarship offers, just two shy of an even ten). Go inside to see which schools tendered a full-ride, what he thinks about those programs stepping up to the plate with scholarships and more...

The 2008 DB class continues to dominate the headlines. Arguably one of the top cornerbacks in the Lone Star State is Garland's Jarrett Ben, who at a recent TCU camp posted a forty time in the 4.4-range, not to mention officially measured 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds. Given his size/speed package for a position, make no mistake, several schools have been busy chasing his commitment (including eight schools officially offering Ben a scholarship).

"Right now, I have offers from TCU, Rice, Duke, Kansas State, Iowa, Iowa State, SMU and one more," Jarrett Ben told Scout.com. "Oh yeah, North Texas. That's the eight."

Summer Camp Agenda: "I went to camps at TCU, Texas Tech, North Texas and Rice."

Commitment Time Frame: "I'm going to take all of my official visits first. I'd like to check out some of the campuses during the fall so I can get a better idea what it's like at the schools I'm interested in."

Official Visit Agenda: "Well, already having unofficially visited TCU, SMU, North Texas -- you know they're all so close to home -- I even went to see Texas A&M," the 5-foot-10, 165-pound DB said before adding, "I guess I'd probably have to say right now I'd officially visit Iowa State, Duke, Rice, Iowa and K-State. But that's subject to change."

Let's meet the coaches recruiting the Garland cornerback with 4.4 speed...

"(Duke) Scott Brown, (Iowa) Carl Jackson, (Iowa State) Scott Fountain, (K-State) Greg Burns, (Rice) David Beaty, (SMU) Rusty Burns, (TCU) Dan Sharp."

JR Season Stat Package: "30 tackles, 7 PBUs, 1 FR."

Track-And-Field: "21.5 in the open 200 meters; I run on the 4x100 and 4x200 relays."

Weight Room Numbers: "260 Bench, 245 Incline, 380 Squat."

Academics: "3.7 Core GPA, 1420 on my first SAT."
