"I got a call from the Kansas State coaches but just missed it," the 6-2.5, 260-pound DE told KStateFans.com. "I was supposed to go to Manhattan this past weekend but something came up and I went ahead and tripped to Southern Miss. I think KSU is still interested because they called me."
"I haven't really built much of a relationship with the K-State coaches though," Chatman revealed. "I didn't talk to them a whole lot either, maybe just once or twice a month at the most. They have been going through my coaches, talking to them, and not talking to me a whole lot you know."
This has the Cats on the back-burner because of this approach.
"I've been talking directly to the coaches at Oklahoma State, Mississippi State and Southern Miss," Chatman sharing pertinent recruiting information said. "And so I know a lot more about their programs than I do K-State."
Asked if he was still tripping to K-State, Chatman said, "Yeah, I think I'd still go check them out. But I'm not sure if I'm really interested without having talked to the coaches, getting to know them. So..."
The two schools he is digging the most are in-state, "Mississippi State and Southern Miss...."
On Mississippi State: "I always wanted to go there for some reason since I went to a baseball camp there. They're only two hours away from home and my family can come see me play."
On Southern Miss: " I just took an official visit there and really enjoyed it. I know they're in my main two right now. And, they are close to home, about 3.5 hours a way. So, my family can come see me play."
Sophomore Season Stats: "80-something tackles, about 40 solo, 7-8 sacks, 4-5 tipped passes, blocked a field goal, forced two fumbles and recovered one."
Weight Room Numbers: "400 Bench, 500 Squat, 350 Power Clean."
Eligibility: "I sign in February, graduate in May and have three years to play two."
