Nelson Plays in Senior Bowl

Kansas State's Jordy Nelson made the most of his one opportunity Saturday in the annual North-South Senior Bowl game played in Mobile, Ala. Nelson caught one pass for 12 yards for the North in a 17-16 loss to the South.

One catch, 12 yards.

That was the statistical line for Kansas State wide receiver Jordy Nelson Saturday at the Senior Bowl played in Mobile, Ala. Nelson's attitude: "I still had fun. All you can do is make plays when they come to you, and I did."

Nelson later said, "If you come down here to play, it shows coaches that you're a competitor and that you want to play against the best there is. I think playing here can help you more than it hurts you. I feel good about what I've done."

Nelson also played on kickoff return and coverage teams.

Most are projecting K-State's record-setting receiver to be drafted anywhere from the early third round, to mid-fourth round in the April National Football League Draft.

The main concern about the 6-foot-4, 217-pounder is his foot speed.

"Nelson is very sure handed, but his game lacks any speed or quickness," reported one draft site.

Adam Caplan of Scouts.com penned of Nelson, "He was one of the most intriguing prospects down here this week. While not a burner, he ran better than his listed 40-time.

He has a big frame and did a really good job of sealing off defenders, which will be important at the next level since he's not fast."

Nelson will have other opportunities to improve his draft stock during on-campus workouts, plus the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Ind., from Feb. 21-26.
