Coach Snyder Weighs In - Legends Poll

ATLANTA (Nov 2, 2008) -- Here is the story written by our exclusive media partner, Sporting News Today (SNT) about this week's poll.

Good thing for Texas Tech the Legends Poll doesn't count toward the BCS formula.

A day after knocking off No. 1 Texas to run their record to 9-0, the Red Raiders still found themselves a distant fourth in the poll of 18 former coaching greats.

That's one spot behind a one-loss Florida team, whose 49-10 rout of Georgia and four-game winning streak had Tim Tebow & Co. as high as No. 2 on seven pollsters' ballots.

"My two best teams in the country right now are Alabama and Florida," said former Ohio State coach John Cooper.

As expected, Alabama (9-0) replaced Texas as the Legends' consensus No. 1. Penn State (9-0) was No. 2, despite a seventh-place vote from former Auburn coach Pat Dye. No. 3 Florida (7-1) was also seventh on a ballot -- that of former Arkansas coach Frank Broyles.

"I initially was thinking of putting Texas Tech No. 1 because they are undefeated and they beat the No. 1 team," said former Kansas State coach Bill Snyder. "But I was persuaded to go with Alabama because they are also undefeated and have been ranked higher all season long. I didn't think Alabama should be punished because they beat a lesser opponent (Arkansas State) than Texas Tech did."
