K-State Head Coach Bill Snyder Quotes

K-State Head Coach Bill Snyder Quotes followig the win over Tennessee Tech

On the defense ...

"Tysyn (Hartman) got that early interception, which was a tremendous play. It was very much a team-oriented victory for the defense. Our linemen held their own in the run game, but we still were not very good with the pass rush. Our linebackers were where they needed to be and played well against the run. We made some good individual plays in the secondary against the pass, even though we gave up a little bit. I think our defense's performance was team-oriented."

On Daniel Thomas...

"Daniel is a pretty consistent performer. Week in and week out, practice in and practice out, he is pretty much the same guy. I think where he has made improvement is that he has become more and more acclimated to the offense and what it is all about. That is certainly a benefit for him and it allows him to make some of the plays he makes. He can make people miss him and can break some tackles. He has been pretty consistent in that respect. I think he has played at a pretty good level and remained at that level, and where his improvements have been made is just understanding what we are doing a little bit better."

On frequent fourth-down conversion attempts...

"Early in the game it was short yardage. I felt like we should have been able to make it. I think our football team needs to understand that when they get in those situations, where it is short yardage on third down or fourth down, we need to be a more physical football team that can covert. Late in the ball game, I just was trying to stay off the scoreboard. It kind of hurt because we needed for our field goal kicker to get as many opportunities as he possibly could. I certainly would have felt uncomfortable putting more points on the board."

On the offensive line...

"I was not pleased in the first half of the game but I think as we seemed to gain a little momentum, we collectively played pretty well, which to me is significant. I thought our offensive line continued to make improvement. There were still mistakes and a substantial amount of them, but you see an awful lot of times that some of those creases and those holes that the backs get to run through are a product of what your offensive line does. I think they continued to take a step forward."

On the performance of special teams...

"I thought our special teams, certainly our kickoff return, made some headway last week. Even though it is harder to get separation in the caliber of competition, I think we continue to make some headway. Our punt return unit had some opportunities as well. We were not as good as we needed to be there, but we are getting a little bit closer. We did not get a chance to punt the ball, but collectively, I think our special teams did take a little step forward."
