K-State Football Weekly Press Conference

Manhattan- After a Win over Iowa State and a suprise start of Grant Gregory at Quarterback, Head Coach Bill Snyder and a few select players discuss the win, position changes and Texas Tech.

Head Coach Bill Snyder On the victory over Iowa State...
"When they scored their final touchdown, I thought that maybe it was meant to turn out this way. But when we blocked the extra point, I knew that it meant for us to come away with a win. Why it happened, I don't really know. I was just very pleased to come away with the victory."

On the play of Grant Gregory...
"He made a couple of very significant plays on Saturday. He had some help on those plays, but it had a lot to do with his ability to move around. He did some good things, but he also has some things he needs to work on. I think that the more experience he gets, the better he will become."

On the play of Lamark Brown ...
"He made some nice plays on Saturday, especially on his touchdown catch. I think that speaks to his physical presence as much as anything. I think that he is gradually finding his way and getting better every day."

On moving Collin Klein and Joseph Kassanavoid to different positions...
"At the start of the season, we had quite a few quarterbacks. The significant thing for us is to provide every player with the opportunity to get on the field and make a difference. I think that Joe has made a very good transition to defensive end. He had a forced fumble that was a major play in the Iowa State game. Collin has also made a nice transition to wide receiver where he is seeing more playing time. They want to be on the field and we want to give them the opportunity to do so. I appreciate the fact that they are willing to do what is best for the team."

On time of possession against Texas Tech...
"It is very important to keep the ball away from them. They have the ability to score very quickly and they can do so at anytime. So we will need to control the football as much as possible on Saturday."

On Texas Tech's offense...
"I think that Mike Leach and the rest of their coaching staff have done a very good job. They have very good quarterbacks and wide receivers, which fit their system so well, and an offensive line that has very good size. They also have a very good running game, which you always have to account for."

On the importance of playing a fundamentally sound defense ...
"I didn't think that we tackled as well on Saturday as we did in the previous games. There were some fundament things against Iowa State that need to be corrected. This week we are going to have to focus more on tackling in open space. Their style of offense puts more of an emphasis on one-on-one tackling. So that is something we are going to have to get better at."

On the Texas Tech quarterbacks...
"They have two kids that are very talented. I'm not sure who is going to play on Saturday. (Taylor) Potts is the more experienced of the two, but they are both very efficient throwing the ball. (Steven) Sheffield is the more mobile of the two. He has the ability to scramble around and be more elusive. So we will have a tough time with whichever player we will face.

"I think that we have had problems putting pressure on the passer, something that we have to do against Texas Tech. They are a team that knows how to make you pay for your mistakes. They have had their system in place for a long time and they seem to have a good understanding of how to fix any problems they might be having offensively. I think that the key for us is to get better individually. We are going to get more opportunities to make big plays because they throw the ball more than any team we have played against. It will be a major test for us and all I can hope for is that our team can get more pressure on their quarterback and force him to make some mistakes."

Senior Quarterback Grant Gregory On going to Texas Tech...
"It is pretty exciting. It looks like a pretty awesome environment. I know that they have not lost at home since 2007. They have a pretty good home-field advantage, so it will be pretty exciting."

On focusing in this week...
"It is not hard to do. I have waited so long for this opportunity I cannot start thinking about that past. It is time to move on and focus on the best team that we have played to this point and just try to find a way to win."

Sophomore Linebacker Alex Hrebec On defensive game plan...
"They execute very well on offense and we are aware of that. As a defense, we are going to have to execute well and stick to the fundamentals of the game."

On controlling time of possession...
"Time of possession is always important and it helps out when your offense is out there driving the ball down the field. It is just as important in this game as it is in any other game."

Senior Wide Receiver Brandon Banks On the leadership of Grant Gregory...
"He is a leader. He has to take charge and be the leader of the team as a quarterback. Those are the things that he has to do and he is doing well with that."

Senior Defensive Lineman Jeffrey Fitzgerald On Texas Tech offense...
"We know that they are a very pass-heavy team so we have to focus on getting a better pass rush then we have done all season. We just have to stay fundamentally sound and stick with our keys."
