Kansas State vs. South Dakota Quotes

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Post Game Quotes from players Jacob Pullen, Curtis Kelly, Jamar Samuels and Head Coach Frank Martin.

Head Coach Frank Martin On number of field goal attempts...

"When we play the way we want to play, we want to be up there in shot attempts. We still do not do that as consistently as we need to do it, but I think that we are getting better at it."

On being prepared for conference play...

"This is the most prepared we have been in my two years as head coach. Winning is hard and it is crazy in the Big 12. We have a core group of guys who have been through it and they understand what their roles and responsibilities are."

On defensive second half energy...

"We did it against Cleveland State, I have told the team that focus is something that worries me at times and the last two games we went into the locker room with big leads and we have come out and extended those leads."

Kansas State Player Quotes

Guard Jacob Pullen On what sparked the run towards the end of the first half...

"We realized we were not keeping our tempo and pressure up which led to some easy buckets for them. Frank (Martin) was not too happy on the sidelines because of that, so we took it amongst ourselves to keep the tempo up and pressure them in the front court."

On whether the team has accomplished everything they wanted to in the non-conference slate...

"I think so. As a team I think we did exactly what we needed to do. It would have been nice to get a win in Puerto Rico but I think it really woke us up and let us know what we needed to correct. After Fort Hays State it showed us that we cannot take anything for granted. Since then we have really been hands on with our tempo and I think we have been playing good basketball with each other."

On the importance of the freshmen getting playing time today...

"It is important for them to continue to learn and to be in a situation where they have to keep the pressure on. When we get in the Big 12 and the upperclassmen need some rest then they have to come in and help us and produce. It is always a learning experience and hopefully they are taking it in."

Forward Curtis Kelly On the start to the second half...

"I think Jake (Jacob Pullen) and Denis (Clemente) got real hot and our defense pressure was real good too. In past games we would have big leads at the half and in the second half we would kind of take the foot off of the pedal a little bit. We cannot do that against good teams. Better teams will make a run and come back. We have to get better with our second half performances but I think today did a pretty good job."

Forward Jamar Samuels On whether anything changes when preparing for Missouri...

"Nothing really changes. We have been having good practices all week. We just have to get ready for Missouri's press. They are the type of team that gets after it all 40 minutes. Frank (Martin) just said in the locker room that he thinks we are well prepared, so it should be a fun game."

On where he thinks this team stands compared to last year's team...
"Last year I do not think our communication was there. This year everyone is on the same page and we are playing really hard."
