Boston Stiverson talks decision

It didn't take Boston Stiverson long to make a commitment to the Kansas State Wildcat program. Stiverson, from Andover, Kansas, was extended an offer by the Wildcat staff as recently as last weekend following a camp in Manhattan.

"I called Joe Bob (Clements), the coach who is recruiting me, and let him know I was ready to commit," said Boston Stiverson.

Stiverson spent most of the day at last week's camp with his future position coach, Charlie Dickey. He said Dickey was a big reason for his commitment.

"Coach Dickey is a great person to be around and to learn the game from," Stiverson said. "The whole coaching staff has been great. They make you feel like you're a part of the family at Kansas State. The facilities are excellent. Going there, I get a chance to play for Bill Snyder, who's a coaching legend. I think he's going to get the program back on top.

"I've always loved Kansas State and grew up a Wildcat fan. I'm sure that I'll attend a few games this year and plan on being at one of their practices in a couple of weeks."

Kansas State wasn't the only college in pursuit of Stiverson's services. He was also hearing from TCU, Kansas, and Northern Illinois with an solid offer on the table from Northern Iowa.

"I'm done," said Stiverson of his recruiting. "I'm 100-percent committed to the program. I'm not going to take any other visits. I'm just going to focus on my senior season at Andover."

Last season, Stiverson, 6-4, 290, was named 1st team All-State (5A), 1st team All-League (Arkansas Valley- Chisholm Trail Division II) and 2nd team All-League as a defensive lineman. He plays left tackle on the Andover offensive line, but feels like Kansas State may move him inward. "I'll probably play either center or guard in college," he said, "unless I continue to grow."

Stiverson also participates in basketball and track at his high school. He reports a 3.5 GPA in his coursework with a 23 scored on the ACT. At K-State he hopes to major in Criminal Justice or Communications.

The Andover Trojans begin their 2010 season with McPherson High School on September 3rd. Boston Stiverson wears No. 77 for the blue & white.
