Jayhawks add commitment No. 19

With the first season of the Turner Gill era on Mount Oread now in the books, the focus has once again shifted to recruiting. Kansas got a bit of good news Friday, as speedy linebacker Colin Garrett gave his verbal pledge to the Jayhawks.

A native of Beaumont, Texas, the West Brook High School star is rated a two-star prospect by Scout.com. Garrett confirmed his commitment with Phog.net late Friday night.

His strengths are intriguing, listed as instincts, lateral movement and speed by Scout.com recruiting analysts. The only major area for improvement appears to be size, as Garrett stands 6-foot-1 and weighs in at a shade more than 200 pounds.

Kansas head coach Turner Gill has maintained all along that speed would be a key area of emphasis as they hit the recruiting trail – and the Lone Star State product certainly has that in spades.

Stay tuned to Phog.net for continuing coverage, and an interview with the newest Jayhawk during the weekend!
