As the top remaining uncommitted prospect in the Class of 2011, Ben McLemore has drawn his fair share of national attention from recruitniks in recent months.
Of course, two fan bases in particular have a little more at stake than the rest.
It has long been known that the 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Mouth of Wilson (VA) Oak Hill Academy would select from a final two of Kansas and Missouri. Having already visited both programs officially, McLemore took advantage of his winter break from school to take a pair of unofficial visits in the past week.
On Thursday he saw the Tigers take down Old Dominion, 81-58, before tripping to Lawrence, Kan. three days later to see the Jayhawks dispatch Miami (OH) University 83-56.
Though he is no stranger to the University of Kansas campus, this was McLemore's first time at Allen Fieldhouse for a game. From the atmosphere to the action on the court, the experience appears to have been top notch.
"I think I would fit right in that program," he said.
A tentative deadline for a decision was set for winter break, as McLemore would have the chance to speak with his mother at length about his college decision. With his Jan. 9 date of return to Oak Hill looming, the elite shooting guard prospect is still hoping to get something done in the very near future.
"I'm going to talk to my mom now, sit down and talk to her about it," he said. "I want to make a commitment this week."
