2011 big man looking at April decision

Having visited the Indiana Hoosiers recently, Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy power forward Jamari Traylor is hoping to make a handful of additional visits in the weeks ahead, before putting an end to his recruitment. Head Coach Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks have put themselves firmly in the mix.

With the 2011 basketball season now officially in the can, many programs are still on the hunt for senior prospects with which to bolster their rosters for next year.

The Kansas Jayhawks are right in the thick of that hunt, particularly where big men are concerned. With the possibility of losing forwards Marcus and Markieff Morris, as well as potentially Thomas Robinson, to the NBA – and senior Mario Little graduating – Head Coach Bill Self and Co. are in need of talented post depth heading into the 2011-2012 season.

One player who has drawn their attention is Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy power forward Jamari Traylor. Undersized at 6-foot-6, Traylor makes up for it with a powerful build and outstanding athleticism, to go along with a relentless motor on the glass.

A Kansas staff member took in Senior Night at IMG in March to get a look at Traylor in person, and the prospect said they offered a scholarship shortly thereafter. Now, the two parties keep in frequent contact.

"They call me to ask what's going on with me and how I'm doing and stuff," Traylor said. "Just trying to build the relationship with me."

With the goal in mind of making his college decision by the end of the month – and a desire to take a number of visits during that timeframe – the next few weeks figure to be busy for the athletic forward.

Having recently visited Indiana, he hopes to get trips to all of his finalists scheduled in the very near future.

"I know I'm going to visit Kansas," Traylor said. "And I know I'm going to visit St. John's and Mississippi State."

Asked about factors that will influence his decision, for him one stood out above all else.

"I know I can play anywhere," he explained. "Just as far as my college decision, I just want to go somewhere I can play as a freshman."
