NBA Draft: Markieff Morris taken at 13

The first of three Kansas Jayhawks to forego their remaining eligibility and declare for the NBA draft is off the board.

Markieff Morris, the 6-foot-10, 245-pound power forward from Philadelphia, was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the 13th pick overall. Though many projected his twin brother, Marcus, as the more likely of the two to be taken first, ESPN analyst Jay Bilas said the fact that Markieff has an established position in the League (power forward) may have given him a leg up.

"Back to the basket he makes good moves in the post, moves his feet particularly well and he does a really good job on the glass," Bilas said. "He's the better rebounder of the Morris Twins and he's the better shot blocker."

In his junior season at Kansas, Morris averaged 13.6 points and 8.3 points per game. His rebounding statistics, as well as his 58.9-percent field goal percentage, led the Big 12, and he was selected to the all-conference second team. Top Stories
