McCay granted release, looking at three

Former Roeland Park (KS) Bishop Miege star Justin McCay has been granted his release from the University of Oklahoma, according to a source close to the situation.

A five-star prospect - and the No. 10 wide receiver in the country - in the Class of 2010 according to, Justin McCay signed and played for the Sooners in 2011 after redshirting during his freshman season in Norman, Okla.

According to the source, the release signed by Oklahoma would potentially allow him to transfer to a team within the Big 12 and lose just a single season of eligibility - after sitting out a year - as opposed to two. Information on his release has been sent to a trio of schools - Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri - and it is likely McCay will take visits.

Whether or not he will visit all three is still up in the air, as his timeframe is accelerated. The 6-foot-2, 209-pound wideout would like to enroll for the spring semester at whichever school he chooses.

McCay's former high school coach - Tim Grunhard - was recently hired by Head Coach Charlie Weis at Kansas to coach the offensive line. Top Stories
