"Rock Chalk Jayhawk"

Things in the past week have moved pretty quickly for Justin McCay. But now that he's a Kansas Jayhawk, he's ready to be a part of building something special on Mount Oread. Phog.net caught a few minutes with the latest five-star prospect to join the Kansas football family, and talked about his decision.

Things in the past week have moved quickly for Justin McCay.

After requesting - and being granted - his release from the University of Oklahoma in late December, the former five-star prospect from Roeland Park (KS) Bishop Miege had his release information sent to a trio of schools. Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri were all in the running.

The process of setting up visits began almost immediately, and the Kansas Jayhawks were first in line. McCay planned a visit for Wednesday, to take in the basketball team's highly-anticipated Big 12 opener with Kansas State.

And, as it turned out, that one visit would be all he needed. Friday, McCay announced his intention to become a Jayhawk.

His former high school coach, Tim Grunhard, was one of the first additions Weis made to his coaching staff, and the fact that 'Grunny' was on board definitely helped things, McCay said. But it was about more than that as well.

"Coach Weis, what he does, I want to be a part of this rebuilding process," he explained. "And say that we got Kansas football on the map."

Oh, and he had a message for Jayhawks fans.

"Rock Chalk Jayhawk."
