After two days of thinking it over, Spanish told KLWN on Thursday night that he'd decided the road to the majors wasn't worth the grind of minor league ball.
"Pretty much playing for free, and the amount of work I was going to put into it -- if I was going to do it, I was going to do it 100% -- that had a little to do with it. The lack of wanting to go out there every day and go through the grind of minor league baseball also put me over the edge."
Spanish lead KU in batting average (.383), home runs (12), runs scored (58) and triples (7) this past season. He now intends to complete his degree at Kansas this fall and then pursue a career in sales back home in Minnesota.
